Cheung Chau Island

I met with my friend from Canada and we took the ferry together from Hong Kong Island to Cheung Chau island, a "dumbbell shaped" island which is one of the oldest places to have been inhabited in Hong Kong. It's a major fishing island, and after finding a place to have lunch we made our way to one of the most famous temples on the island, Pak Tai Temple, which is the one in the photo. It's one of HK's oldest temples, having been completed in 1783. We then visited a few shops and another temple on our way to Cheung Po Tsai Cave. The cave is very narrow and dark in certain parts, and according to legend a famous pirate, Cheung Po Tsai hid himself and his treasure there while hiding to avoid capture, but his treasures have yet to be found. We finally walked back to the beach and some snack shops before leaving the island, but I enjoyed visiting it. The atmosphere was a huge contrast to HK Island and Kowloon, which are busy city areas, so it was a nice change of pace.
