I decided to go by myself to finally visit the Tian Tan Buddha, more commonly known as The Big Buddha. It's located on Lantau Island in a small village in the mountains called Ngong Ping. It's also right beside the Po Lin Monastery. Once I got to Lantau Island, I wanted to take the cable car directly to Ngong Ping Village, however I had read online that the cable car was not currently in service due to maintenance, so instead I wound up taking the bus, which took about an hour. Once I arrived I headed towards the monastery and Buddha, where I saw four wild cows standing on patches of grass along the walkway. I then headed to the bottom of the Buddha, before making my way up the stairs to the top. It was a shorter walk up than I had expected, and when I reached the top I was amazed by how large the statue (which is 112ft tall) was. After exploring the top by the Buddha, I headed to the monastery and then spent a short amount of time in the village. I would have loved to spend more time in the village, but I was worried about whether I would be able to fit on the last bus, so I lined up for the bus to make sure I wouldn't miss it.
