The non-local students organization at PolyU organized a Thursday trip to the High Island Reservoir East Dam, and since I have no classes on Thursdays I decided to attend it. We took two vans into the reservoir and then went by foot up to walk along the ridge and see both the dam and the other side. The views of it were absolutely stunning, and there was an incredible beach on the other side of the mountain, although the organizers told us that the primary way to visit it would be by hiring a private boat. After walking around on top, we went down to walk across the dam, passing by the natural hexagonal patterns in the rocks beside it, which are one of its signature features. There were also two mountains which one of the organizers explained had been a single mountain, until strong winds split it into two parts.
After the hike we went to a seafood restaurant in Sai Kung, and then I went with my friend and four new people I had met on the hike to Sharp Island. This time we went to the Hap Mun Bay side, where we visited the beach and played in the sand, building a "sandman". We then went on the hike to the other side of the island for the return boat to Sai Kung, where we took a minibus back to the dorms.
